Inaugural Women's Calcutta Trophy - Birmingham

Sunday 20th September 2025

This weekend, we came up against The Scottish Thistles, an unknown entity in 3 age categories. And how tough, determined, and talented were they. Overall, a fiercely contested tournament ended up with the Thistles running out deserved overall winners by 2 games to 1.

A very tough opener was edged by England's 40s 2-0, but the reality was it could have gone either way. A 2-1 defeat for our 60s against a side with a slightly younger average was the challenge we needed. A finale between the 50s ended up 2-0 to the Thistles with no real complaints as they eventually overpowered despite our very best efforts.

Work rate throughout was fantastic, and this was exactly what we needed to see where these very recently established squads currently are. We have a long way to go, but our development is on track, and I'm very happy. We have an atmosphere, a team spirit, and a positivity I've rarely experienced in football.

On the day we lost out overall. Great credit to our amazing guests. Good football, very tough, right spirit and well refereed. More positives than negatives from this weekend.
