We are delighted to bring you the September edition of our newsletter, packed with exciting updates from England Walking Football. Our mission remains steadfast: to be a beacon of excellence, setting the standard for inclusivity, professionalism, and community spirit in Walking Football.
For our women's section, September was a month of firsts with the first Women's St Georges tournament and the Inaugural Calcutta Trophy, set to become an annual event.
Our men worked hard on the training ground, with our 65s enjoying their first session under managers Graham and Mark. We're continuing to grow and develop, making new friends and connections. The future for England Walking Football is very bright.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of John Barker to manage the EWF England over 50βs who will be fully supported by Carl Clinton and Tony Newton.
John has a proven record in walking football, managing Winstanley over 60βs and Culcheth over 50βs to win numerous titles and competitions. Recently, John took over the Lancashire regional side winning the national title this year.
John brings many attributes and a wealth of experience to EWF and will be hitting the ground running taking the training session this coming Sunday in Birmingham.

On Saturday 20th September, we came up against the Scottish Thistles in three age groups β tough, determined, talented, and in the end deserved winners 2β1 overall.
Our 40s edged a very hard opener 2β0, the 60s went down 2β1 to a slightly younger side, and the 50s battled hard but were overpowered 2β0.
The work rate and spirit across all squads was fantastic. Weβre only just getting started, but development is on track and the atmosphere in this group is something special. Credit to the Thistles β strong, fair, and played in the right spirit. Plenty of positives for England to take forward.

Whilst our women were busy with fixtures this month, our men took to the training ground at Castle Vale and Birmingham County Headquarters.
Graham and Mark delivered their first training session for our over 65s, receiving excellent feedback and officially welcoming Colin Myers to the squad. Martin Haines, 60s manager was complimentary about the efforts that all his squad put in this month.

Caps were awarded across all age groups for the Caribbean Nations Cup and Maureen Evans International Memorial Cup.

π A big thank you to all players, coaches, and organisers for creating a memorable month of football and friendship.
St George's Women had a great day at the Queens of the Pitch tournament in Melton Mowbray, fielding 3 mixed age teams in our first Women's St. Georgeβs Walking Football Club tournament. St George's finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the 8 team tournament, narrowly losing 1-0 to Forest Vets in the final. All of the players, guests and managers put in a superb peformance and showed great sportswomanship throughout, including stepping in for other teams. A proud day all round!!
